Journey back in time with Broadway Up Close to 1903 as guests get a rare insider look at Broadway’s oldest theater: The Hudson. This interior tour offers tour-goers an exclusive view of the nooks and crannies of this historic building that was restored in 2017 to its original glory after decades of narrowly avoiding demolition. Beginning in Times Square, tour-goers will be transported back to 1903 before stepping inside Hudson Theatre. For over 100 years the theater’s walls have witnessed tragedy, gangsters, and legends of pop culture, music, and Broadway who created iconic moments amid the glow of Louis Comfort Tiffany’s original lighting. For an hour and forty-five minutes guests will bask in these stories told in the theatrical silence of an empty Broadway theater – a rare, one-of-a-kind experience on Broadway! Utilizing iPads chock full of rarely seen photographs and videos from our intense research, tour-goers will see Hudson Theatre’s past and present merge before their eyes like never before.

Lincoln Center Theater was re-established in 1985 under the leadership of Chairman John V. Lindsay, Director Gregory Mosher and Executive Producer Bernard Gersten, and was named "the pre-eminent theater in the country" by The New York Times. Today, under the leadership of Chair Kewsong Lee and Producing Artistic Director André Bishop, the organization produces dozens of plays and musicals, seen by millions of audience members at the Vivian Beaumont Theater, the Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater, the Claire Tow Theater, and other venues. By engaging with the artistry on Lincoln Center Theater’s stages and bringing teaching artists to New York City’s classrooms, Open Stages unlocks the power of theater to ignite the imagination. All season long, thousands of New York City public high school students take their rightful places in our audience. For some students, the High School Program means a first visit to the theater and to Lincoln Center. Both the students and the theater are transformed. Our in-class work is equally transformative. Whether students are writing a song, personalizing a line of Shakespeare, or negotiating a creative choice with their classmates, Open Stages stands for excellent theater and first-rate education.
